The Curator's Narrative
A nice original c1950 to 1960 African Ivory Coast Dan Dean Gle mask representing an idealized version of Dan beauty.
It is characterised by narrow eyes, an oval shape, a smooth forehead, and a mouth slightly open. It has been carved out of wood and decorated by a mane of rolled woven cloth, with added cowrie shells. Patches of red cloth have been along the top to increase the impressive effect. Condition is good, but the mask does show evidence of age, with a good overall patina. We have only given it a light brush, in order to maintain its originality.
Please do a google lens check for the same mask and its priced at £450 with another antique house. So at rarefinds you always find the cheapest of deals.
